In Matthew 16:13, we read of a private conference Jesus had with His disciples about Himself. In this consultation, He asked His disciples; “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” (NKJV). Jesus did not ask this question because He had a low self esteem, neither did He inquire of people’s opinion concerning Him because He was insecure nor was He concerned of what others said about Him because He had an identity crisis. He asked this rhetorical question because He wanted to teach His disciples a kingdom principle.
After they had informed Him of people’s opinion concerning Him, He proceeded to ask what they (His disciples) thought of Him. Peter then responded that “You are Christ, the Son of the Living God” (Matthew 16:16; NKJV). Jesus then said to Peter that flesh and blood has not revealed this to him but His Father who is in heaven. “Flesh and blood” as used refers to the natural realm, and “Father who is in heaven” as also used refers to the supernatural realm. Hence, what Jesus said to Peter was that this was not a natural revelation but a supernatural revelation.
Jesus then continued to say “I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19; NKJV). Notice that Jesus said I will give you the keys to indicate there is more than one key. One of the keys He introduced in verse 19 is prayer. The phrase “whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” refers to prayer.
Friend, whatever blessing you need here on earth is already provided. God’s blessings have already been accomplished in the spiritual realms. He is waiting for His children to operate the Kingdom principle of praying to gain access to the spirit realm so the blessings can be released to them. Prayer is the link between the natural and the spiritual realms. What prayer does is that it ascends into the spiritual realm to convert, decode, download and translate from the spiritual realm to the natural realm the blessings that you need here on earth.
So with the discourse Jesus had with His disciples, He taught that one of keys to accessing the supernatural is prayer, and when you access the supernatural, you are able to bring down to the natural that which is in the supernatural. Just like downloading a program from the internet to your hard drive requires an internet connection, similarly, releasing a breakthrough from the spiritual realm to the natural realm also requires prayer. According to Ephesians 1:3; “God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has blessed us with every blessing in the heavenly places” (NKJV). The interpretation is that you have already been blessed with all blessings you need here on earth. However, the blessings are in the heavenly realms. Prayer is what brings it down to the earthly realm.
When Elijah told Ahab that he hears a sound of abundance of rain at a time Israel had experience a three and a half year drought, he said that because that was what he was hearing in the spiritual realm. The rain was already provided by God, but it was locked up in the realm of the spirit. Elijah had to go to mount Carmel and commit himself to prayer to be able to convert what he was hearing in the spiritual realm to the natural realm. As he prayed, he successfully was able to access the supernatural to release the rain. Likewise, whatever miracle breakthrough you need is already provided, but it is locked in the realm of the spirit. You have to resort to consistent, insistent and persistent prayer to breakthrough the heavenly realm to release your blessings to the natural realm.
